👨🍳 Ohjeet
- 1
In a large bowl, combine lukewarm milk, sugar, 1 tablespoon of flour, and yeast. Let it stand for 10 minutes until foamy.
💡 Ammattilaisvinkit: Ensure milk is lukewarm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly. - 2
Add baking powder, salt, vegetable oil, egg whites, and about 3 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined. Gradually add more flour as needed to form a soft dough. Knead on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 3
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 4
Punch down the dough and knead for another 5 minutes. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle about the size of a medium pizza.
💡 Ammattilaisvinkit: Work with one portion at a time, keeping the others covered. - 5
Cut each circle into 8 equal triangular slices. Place a tablespoon of crumbled feta cheese at the widest part of each triangle. Roll each slice from the wide end towards the tip, enclosing the cheese.
💡 Ammattilaisvinkit: Don't overfill, or the cheese might leak out during baking. - 6
Place the rolled kifli on a lightly greased baking sheet. Cover and let them rest for about 20 minutes.
💡 Ammattilaisvinkit: Allowing them to rest helps them become lighter and fluffier. - 7
Whisk the egg yolks and brush each kifli with the mixture. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (360°F) for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
💡 Ammattilaisvinkit
- ✓These kifli are best enjoyed fresh, especially when still warm from the oven.
- ✓The dough can be refrigerated for later use or the baked kifli can be frozen.
- ✓For a slightly sweeter roll, you can add a tablespoon of sugar to the dough.
