Solomon Islands Green Papaya Curry
A flavorful and comforting curry made with unripe green papaya, simmered in coconut milk with aromatic spices. This dish highlights the Solomon Islands' resourceful use of local ingredients, as green papaya readily absorbs the flavors it's cooked with.

🧂 食材
- 1 medium Green papaya(peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch cubes)
- 2 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 large Onion(finely chopped)
- 3 cloves Garlic(minced)
- 1 tbsp Ginger(grated)
- 2 tbsp Curry powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 small Chili pepper(finely chopped (optional, adjust to taste))
- 400 ml Coconut milk(full-fat)
- 200 ml Vegetable broth
- Salt(to taste)
- Fresh cilantro(for garnish)
- Cooked rice(for serving)
👨🍳 步驟
- 1
Prepare the green papaya: Peel the papaya, cut it in half, scoop out the seeds, and then cut the flesh into approximately 1-inch cubes.
- 2
Heat the coconut oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3
Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped chili pepper (if using). Cook for another minute until fragrant.
- 4
Stir in the curry powder and turmeric powder. Cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly, until the spices are fragrant.
- 5
Add the cubed green papaya to the pot and stir to coat it with the spice mixture.
- 6
Pour in the coconut milk and vegetable broth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the papaya is tender but not mushy.
- 7
Season the curry with salt to taste. Stir well.
- 8
Serve the green papaya curry hot over cooked rice, garnished with fresh cilantro.
💡 專業提示
- ✓Ensure the papaya is unripe (green) for the best texture and flavor absorption.
- ✓Adjust the amount of chili pepper to your spice preference.
