Chorreadas
Chorreadas are savory corn fritters, a popular snack or side dish in Costa Rica. Made from fresh corn kernels, they are typically pan-fried until golden and crispy, often served with sour cream or a light salad.

🧂 Ingredients
- 3 cups Fresh Corn Kernels(from about 4-5 ears of corn)
- 1/2 cup All-purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 1 large Egg
- 1/4 cup Onion(finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp Cilantro(chopped)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
- 3-4 tbsp Vegetable Oil(for frying)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the fresh corn kernels, finely chopped onion, and chopped cilantro.
- 2
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, milk, egg, salt, and pepper until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick but pourable.
- 3
Pour the batter over the corn mixture and stir gently to combine. Do not overmix.
- 4
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the corn batter into the skillet, flattening them slightly with the back of the spoon to form fritters.
- 5
Fry the chorreadas for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels. Serve warm with sour cream, salsa, or a side salad.
💡 Pro Tips
- ✓Using fresh corn kernels provides the best flavor and texture. If fresh corn is unavailable, you can use frozen corn, thawed and drained.
- ✓For extra flavor, add a pinch of ground cumin to the batter.
- ✓Ensure the oil is hot enough before adding the batter to prevent the fritters from absorbing too much oil.
🔄 Variations
- Add a pinch of chili flakes to the batter for a hint of spice.
- Serve with a drizzle of Lizano sauce.
