🧂 Ingredients

  • 500 g All-purpose flour
  • 250 ml Warm water
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 400 g Ground pork or beef
  • 1 medium Onion(finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic(minced)
  • 2 tbsp Parsley(chopped fresh)
  • 1 tsp Marjoram(dried)
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper(freshly ground)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt(for filling)
  • 1 large Egg(beaten, for egg wash)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1

For the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add warm water and vegetable oil, mixing until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.

  2. 2

For the filling: In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion in a little oil until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. In a bowl, combine the ground meat, sautéed onion and garlic mixture, chopped parsley, marjoram, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each portion very thinly into a rectangle, about 2-3 mm thick.

  4. 4

Spread a generous layer of the meat filling evenly over each rectangle of dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  5. 5

Carefully roll up each rectangle tightly, like a Swiss roll. Pinch the ends to seal.

  6. 6

Cut the rolls into individual portions, about 3-4 cm thick. Arrange the portions cut-side up in a greased baking dish.

  7. 7

Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg wash.

  8. 8

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Ensure the dough is rolled very thin for the best texture.
  • Don't overfill the dough, or it might be difficult to roll.
  • Experiment with different herbs like thyme or chives in the filling.

🔄 Variations

  • Add sautéed mushrooms to the meat filling for extra flavor and texture.
  • For a vegetarian version, use a filling of finely chopped cooked vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, and cheese.
