  • 300 g Smoked pork ribs or bacon(cut into pieces)
  • 1 large Onion(chopped)
  • 2 medium Carrots(chopped)
  • 3 cloves Garlic(minced)
  • 2 tbsp Paprika(sweet, Hungarian)
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil or lard
  • 1.5 l Water or broth
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black pepper
  • 1 Bay leaf

    Drain the soaked beans and rinse them thoroughly. Place them in a large pot.

    Add the smoked meat, chopped onion, carrots, and bay leaf to the pot with the beans.

    Pour in enough water or broth to cover everything by about 2 inches. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5-2 hours, or until beans are tender.

    While the beans are simmering, heat the oil or lard in a separate pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about a minute until fragrant.
