Account Data

When you create an account on world.food, we collect and store:

• Email address — used for authentication, account recovery, and important account notifications.
• Display name and username — publicly visible on your profile and contributions.
• Profile information — any optional bio or details you choose to add.

Account data is stored securely via Supabase (hosted on AWS). We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

User-Generated Content

Recipes you create, edits you suggest, and comments you post are stored in our database and publicly visible. Your username is associated with your contributions. If you delete your account, your contributions may remain on the platform but will be disassociated from your identity.

AI Services

world.food uses third-party AI services (Google Gemini) to power features including the AI Chef assistant and recipe generation. When you use these features:

• Your prompts and messages are sent to Google's API for processing.
• We do not store your AI Chef conversations beyond the current session.
• Google's data handling is governed by their own Privacy Policy.

Cookies We Use

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. This helps us improve our recipes and content. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous information about your visit.

Essential Cookies

• Authentication cookies — Used to keep you signed in to your account.
• cookie-consent — Stores your cookie preference. Does not expire until cleared.

Analytics Cookies

• _ga — Used to distinguish users. Expires after 2 years.
• _gid — Used to distinguish users. Expires after 24 hours.
• _gat — Used to throttle request rate. Expires after 1 minute.

Advertising Cookies

We display advertisements through Google AdSense. When you accept cookies, Google may use cookies to show you personalized ads based on your interests and browsing history.

When you first visit our site, you'll see a cookie consent banner. You can:

• Accept — We'll use analytics cookies to improve our site.

Google AdSense: We display ads through Google AdSense. When you reject cookies, ads are still shown but are not personalized to your interests.

Data Retention & Deletion

Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting us. Recipe contributions may be retained in anonymized form after account deletion.
