Bahraini Saffron Rice with Cardamom and Raisins
A fragrant and subtly sweet rice dish, often served as a side, featuring the delicate aroma of saffron and cardamom, complemented by plump raisins.

🧂 Ingredients
- 2 cups Basmati rice
- 3 cups Water
- 0.5 tsp Saffron threads(steeped in 2 tbsp warm water)
- 4 crushed Cardamom pods
- 0.5 cup Raisins
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Sugar(optional)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
Rinse the basmati rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- 2
In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, crushed cardamom pods, and salt. Bring to a boil.
- 3
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- 4
While the rice is cooking, gently sauté the raisins in butter in a small pan for 2-3 minutes until they plump up. If using sugar, add it here and stir until dissolved.
- 5
Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork. Drizzle the steeped saffron water over the rice and gently fold it in to distribute the color and aroma. Add the plumped raisins and toss lightly.
- 6
Cover the pot again and let it steam for 5 minutes off the heat before serving.
💡 Pro Tips
