Brochettes de Poisson Rwandaise - Rwanda traditional dish

🧂 Ingredients

  • 500 g Tilapia or Nile Perch fillets(cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 3 cloves Garlic(minced)
  • 1 tsp Ginger(grated)
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 0.5 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1 medium Onion(cut into chunks for skewering)
  • 1 medium Bell pepper (any color)(cut into chunks for skewering)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1

In a bowl, combine lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, pepper, and vegetable oil. Mix well to create the marinade.

  2. 2

Add the fish cubes to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes at room temperature.

  3. 3

While the fish is marinating, soak wooden skewers in water for 15-20 minutes to prevent burning. If using metal skewers, this step is not necessary.

  4. 4

Thread the marinated fish cubes onto the skewers, alternating with chunks of onion and bell pepper.

  5. 5

Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates.

  6. 6

Grill the skewers for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Be careful not to overcook.

  7. 7

Serve hot, perhaps with a side of rice or a fresh salad.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Ensure fish is fresh for the best flavor.
  • Adjust spice levels according to your preference.
  • Don't overcrowd the skewers to ensure even cooking.

🔄 Variations

  • Add other vegetables like tomatoes or zucchini to the skewers.
  • Use shrimp or firm tofu instead of fish for a different protein.
