🧂 Ingredients
- 2 cups Basmati rice
- 3 cups Water
- 1/2 tsp Saffron threads(steeped in 2 tbsp warm water)
- 4-5 whole Cardamom pods(lightly crushed)
- 1/2 cup Raisins
- 2 tbsp Ghee or unsalted butter
- 1 tsp Salt(or to taste)
- 1/4 cup Optional: Toasted slivered almonds or pine nuts(for garnish)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- 2
In a medium saucepan, combine the drained rice, water, crushed cardamom pods, ghee, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- 3
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- 4
Gently stir in the steeped saffron water and raisins. Cover again and let it steam for another 5 minutes off the heat.
- 5
Fluff the rice with a fork. Serve hot, garnished with toasted nuts if desired.
💡 Pro Tips
- ✓Ensure the cardamom pods are lightly crushed to release their aroma without overpowering the dish.
- ✓Don't overcook the rice; it should be tender but not mushy.
- ✓Soaking the saffron in warm water helps to release its color and flavor more effectively.
🔄 Variations
- Add a pinch of ground cinnamon for an extra layer of warmth.
- Incorporate a tablespoon of rose water in the last steaming step for a floral note.
