Mallorcas Saladas
A savory variation of the classic sweet Mallorca bread, these are fluffy, slightly sweet rolls filled with ham and cheese, perfect for breakfast or a light meal.

🧂 Ingredients
- 4 cups All-purpose flour(plus more for dusting)
- 2.25 tsp Active dry yeast
- 1 cup Warm milk(about 105-115°F (40-46°C))
- 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 large Large eggs
- 1/2 cup Unsalted butter(softened)
- 8 oz Thinly sliced ham
- 8 oz Shredded Swiss cheese
- 1 egg Egg wash(beaten with 1 tbsp water)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Add the remaining sugar, salt, eggs, and softened butter to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
💡 Tip: Ensure butter is softened but not melted. - 3
Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a circle.
💡 Tip: Work quickly to prevent the dough from drying out. - 6
Place a slice of ham and a sprinkle of cheese in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to enclose the filling, creating a pocket or bun shape. Pinch seams to seal.
💡 Tip: Ensure the filling is completely enclosed to prevent leakage. - 7
Place the filled rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- 8
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the rolls with egg wash.
💡 Tip: Egg wash gives a beautiful golden sheen. - 9
Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 10
Let cool slightly before serving. These are best enjoyed warm.
💡 Pro Tips
- ✓The dough should be soft and slightly sticky. Avoid adding too much extra flour.

- ✓These can be made ahead and reheated gently.
🔄 Variations
