Nut Rolls
Štruklji z orehi are a beloved Slovenian dessert or side dish, consisting of rolled dough filled with a sweet walnut mixture. They can be steamed or boiled and are often served with a drizzle of melted butter or a dollop of sour cream.

- 300 g All-purpose flour
- 150 ml Warm water
- 1 large Egg yolk
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- 200 g Ground walnuts
- 75 g Granulated sugar
- 50 ml Milk
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 50 g Butter(melted, for brushing and serving)
- 2 tbsp Optional: Breadcrumbs(toasted, for serving)

Prepare the dough: In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the egg yolk and warm water. Mix until a soft, pliable dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Prepare the filling: In a separate bowl, mix ground walnuts, sugar, milk, and cinnamon until well combined. The mixture should be moist but not runny.

Roll out the dough thinly on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, approximately 30x40 cm.

Spread the walnut filling evenly over the buttered dough, leaving a small border along one of the longer edges.

Carefully roll up the dough from the longer edge, like a jelly roll. Pinch the seam to seal.

Cook the štruklji: You can either steam or boil them. For steaming, place them in a steamer basket over boiling water for about 20 minutes. For boiling, carefully place them in simmering, lightly salted water and cook for about 15-20 minutes.
