Grilled or pan-fried fish marinated in lemon juice, garlic, and spices, offering a bright and zesty flavor profile. A popular dish often prepared for special occasions.

🧂 Ingredients
- 2 medium Whole fish(e.g., tilapia, bream, cleaned and scaled)
- 4 tbsp Lemon juice
- 3 cloves Garlic(minced)
- 1 tsp Ginger(grated)
- 1 small Onion(finely chopped)
- 0.5 small Scotch bonnet pepper(optional, finely chopped, seeds removed)
- 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
- Salt(to taste)
- Black pepper(to taste)
- 2 tbsp Fresh parsley or cilantro(chopped, for garnish)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
Make 2-3 diagonal slits on each side of the fish.
💡 Tip: This helps the marinade penetrate the fish. - 2
In a bowl, combine lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped onion, and optional scotch bonnet pepper. Season with salt and black pepper.
💡 Tip: Taste the marinade and adjust seasoning. - 3
Rub the marinade all over the fish, inside the slits and cavity. Let it marinate for at least 15-20 minutes.
💡 Tip: For deeper flavor, marinate for up to 30 minutes. - 4
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
💡 Tip: Ensure the pan is hot before adding the fish. - 5
Carefully place the marinated fish in the hot pan. Cook for about 8-10 minutes per side, or until the fish is golden brown and cooked through.
💡 Tip: Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary. - 6
Alternatively, you can grill the fish over medium-high heat for about 8-10 minutes per side, basting with remaining marinade or oil.
- 7
Garnish with fresh chopped parsley or cilantro before serving.
💡 Tip: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice can be added at the end.
