🧂 Ingredients

  • 400 g All-purpose flour
  • 200 ml Warm water
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 200 g Feta cheese(crumbled)
  • 150 g Spinach(cooked and finely chopped)
  • 4 tbsp Vegetable oil(for frying)
  • 100 ml Yogurt(for serving (optional))

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1

Make the dough: In a bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the warm water and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

Prepare the filling: In a separate bowl, combine the crumbled feta cheese and the cooked, chopped spinach. Mix well.

  3. 3

Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion into a thin circle, about 8-10 inches in diameter.

  4. 4

Place about a quarter of the filling onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a small border.

  5. 5

Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges to seal.

  6. 6

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Carefully place the krelan into the hot oil.

  7. 7

Fry for about 4-6 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Adjust heat as needed to prevent burning.

  8. 8

Alternatively, you can bake the krelan at 375°F (190°C) for about 20-25 minutes, brushing with oil or butter.

  9. 9

Serve hot, optionally with a side of yogurt.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Ensure the spinach is well-drained to prevent the filling from becoming watery.
  • You can add other ingredients to the filling, such as sautéed onions or herbs.
  • If frying, use enough oil to ensure even browning.

🔄 Variations

  • Some versions use a mixture of corn flour and all-purpose flour for the dough.
  • Krelan can also be made with other fillings like leeks or potatoes.
