Serbian Plum Cake (Kolač sa šljivama)
A classic Serbian dessert, this plum cake is a moist and buttery sponge cake studded with juicy plums. It's simple to make and perfect for any occasion, often enjoyed with coffee or rakija. The sweet-tart flavor of the plums complements the rich cake beautifully.

🧂 Ingredients
- 200 g Butter(room temperature)
- 200 g Sugar
- 120 ml Greek yogurt
- 2 unit Large eggs
- 1 tsp Vanilla essence
- 300 g All-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp Baking powder
- 1 tsp Cinnamon(ground)
- 800 g Plums(pitted and quartered)
- 2 tbsp Brown sugar(for topping)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a 26 cm (10-inch) springform pan with baking paper.
- 2
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3
Add the Greek yogurt, eggs (one at a time), and vanilla essence. Mix until well combined. The mixture might look curdled at this stage.
- 4
Gradually add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. Mix until just combined, ensuring no dry flour remains at the bottom.
- 5
Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Spread half of the prepared plums evenly over the batter.
- 6
Pour the remaining batter over the plums, then arrange the remaining plums on top.
- 7
Sprinkle the top with brown sugar and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 8
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
