Surinamese Bami Goreng
A flavorful Indonesian-inspired fried noodle dish, popular in Suriname, featuring stir-fried noodles with vegetables, meat, and a savory, slightly sweet sauce.

🧂 Ingredients
- 300 g Egg noodles
- 200 g Chicken breast(cut into small pieces)
- 100 g Shrimp(peeled and deveined (optional))
- 150 g Cabbage(shredded)
- 100 g Carrots(julienned)
- 1 medium Onion(thinly sliced)
- 3 cloves Garlic(minced)
- 4 tbsp Soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
- 1 tbsp Oyster sauce
- 1 tsp Sesame oil
- 3 tbsp Vegetable oil(for stir-frying)
- to taste Salt
- to taste Pepper
- 2 stalks Spring onions(chopped, for garnish)

Cook egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent sticking. Toss with a little sesame oil.

Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Stir-fry chicken pieces until cooked through. Remove from wok and set aside.

Add another 1 tbsp of vegetable oil to the wok. Add shrimp (if using) and stir-fry until pink and cooked. Remove and set aside with the chicken.

Add the remaining 1 tbsp of vegetable oil to the wok. Add sliced onion and minced garlic, stir-fry until fragrant.

Add shredded cabbage and julienned carrots. Stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until vegetables are tender-crisp.

Return the cooked chicken and shrimp to the wok. Add the cooked noodles.

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, kecap manis, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Pour the sauce over the noodles and ingredients in the wok.

Toss everything together well, ensuring the noodles and vegetables are evenly coated with the sauce. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.

Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped spring onions before serving.
