Trinidad Aloo Pie
A popular street food, Aloo Pie consists of spiced, mashed potato filling encased in a crispy fried dough. It's often served with a variety of chutneys and pepper sauce.

🧂 Ingredients
- 2 lbs Potatoes(peeled and boiled until tender)
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala
- 1/2 small Scotch bonnet pepper(finely minced, seeds removed for less heat)
- 2 cloves Garlic(minced)
- 1 tsp Ginger(grated)
- 2 stalks Green onion(finely chopped)
- 1/2 cup Water(approximately, for dough)
- 3 cups Vegetable oil(for frying)

Mash the boiled potatoes until smooth. Set aside.

In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with turmeric, cumin, garam masala, minced scotch bonnet, garlic, ginger, green onion, and salt. Mix well to form the filling.

In a separate large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt for the dough.

Gradually add water to the flour mixture, mixing until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.

Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a small disc.

Place a generous spoonful of the potato filling in the center of each dough disc. Carefully fold the dough over the filling, sealing the edges completely to form a pie shape. Ensure there are no gaps.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer over medium-high heat to about 350°F (175°C).

Carefully place the aloo pies into the hot oil, a few at a time, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
