Tattaripossu-mykyt
Hearty and flavorful dumplings made with buckwheat flour and ground reindeer meat, often served with a creamy mushroom sauce. A comforting dish showcasing traditional Finnish ingredients.

🧂 Ingredients
- 300 g Ground reindeer meat
- 150 g Buckwheat flour
- 1 large Egg
- 0.5 medium Onion(finely chopped)
- 1 clove Garlic(minced)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 0.5 tsp Black pepper(freshly ground)
- 100-150 ml Water or broth(as needed for dough consistency)
- 1 tbsp Butter or oil(for sautéing onion and garlic)
- For boiling: Water and salt
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
In a pan, melt butter or heat oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion until softened, then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Let cool slightly.
- 2
In a large bowl, combine the ground reindeer meat, buckwheat flour, egg, sautéed onion and garlic mixture, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- 3
Gradually add water or broth, a little at a time, mixing until a firm but pliable dough forms. It should be firm enough to shape but not dry.
- 4
Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil.
- 5
With lightly floured hands, shape the dough into small, bite-sized dumplings (mykyt). You can roll them into small balls or flatten them slightly.
- 6
Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water. Do not overcrowd the pot; cook in batches if necessary.
- 7
Cook the dumplings for about 10-15 minutes, or until they float to the surface and are cooked through. They will expand slightly.
- 8
Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and serve immediately, typically with a mushroom cream sauce or a side of lingonberries.
💡 Pro Tips
- ✓Ensure the dough is not too sticky; add more buckwheat flour if needed.
- ✓The dumplings should be cooked thoroughly to ensure the reindeer meat is safe to eat.
- ✓For a richer flavor, you can add a tablespoon of sour cream to the dumpling mixture.
