- 300 g Brown or green lentils(rinsed)
- 300 g Smoked sausage (klobása)(sliced)
- 2 medium Onions(chopped)
- 3 cloves Garlic(minced)
- 1.2 l Vegetable or chicken broth
- 1 tbsp Sweet paprika
- 1 tbsp All-purpose flour(for thickening (optional))
- 2 tbsp Vegetable oil or lard
- to taste Salt
- to taste Black pepper
- for garnish chopped Fresh parsley

Heat oil or lard in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the sliced smoked sausage to the pot and cook for another 5 minutes, until lightly browned. Stir in the minced garlic and sweet paprika, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add the rinsed lentils and pour in the broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until lentils are tender.

If a thicker stew is desired, whisk the flour with a little cold water to form a smooth paste, then stir it into the simmering stew. Cook for another 5 minutes until thickened.
