Palačinky
Czech Crepes
Palačinky are thin Czech crepes, similar to French crêpes but often slightly thicker and more forgiving. They are typically filled with sweet ingredients like fruit jam, Nutella, or cottage cheese, and dusted with powdered sugar. They can be served as a dessert, a sweet main course, or even for breakfast.

🧂 Ingredients
- 250 g All-purpose flour(about 1 3/4 cups)
- 500 ml Milk(lukewarm, about 2 cups)
- 2 large Eggs
- 1 tbsp Unsalted butter(melted, for the batter)
- 1 tbsp Sugar(optional, for sweet version)
- 0.25 tsp Salt
- for frying Vegetable oil or butter
- as needed Fruit jam or preserves(for filling)
- as needed Powdered sugar(for dusting)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar (if using), and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and milk, then gradually add this to the dry ingredients, whisking until a smooth batter forms. Stir in the melted butter.
- 2
Heat a lightly oiled or buttered non-stick skillet over medium heat. The pan should be hot enough that a drop of batter sizzles.
- 3
Pour about 1/4 cup of batter into the hot skillet and quickly swirl the pan to spread the batter thinly and evenly. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, until the edges start to lift and the bottom is lightly golden.
- 4
Carefully flip the palačinka using a spatula and cook the other side for about 1 minute, or until lightly golden.
- 5
Slide the cooked palačinka onto a plate. Spread with your desired filling, such as fruit jam or Nutella. Roll it up or fold it into quarters.
- 6
Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the pan as needed. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar.
💡 Pro Tips
- ✓Ensure your batter is smooth and lump-free for the best texture.
- ✓Don't overcrowd the pan; cook one palačinka at a time.
- ✓If the first palačinka isn't perfect, don't worry! It often takes one to get the heat and batter consistency just right.
