Macedonian Yogurt and Garlic Dip
Tarator
A refreshing and tangy dip or cold soup made primarily from yogurt, garlic, cucumber, and dill. It's a perfect accompaniment to grilled meats, hearty stews, or enjoyed on its own during warmer months.

๐ง Ingredients
- 500 g Plain yogurt(full-fat recommended)
- 1 medium Cucumber(peeled, seeded, and finely diced or grated)
- 2-3 cloves Garlic(minced or pressed)
- 1/4 cup Fresh dill(chopped)
- 50 g Walnuts (optional)(chopped, for garnish)
- 2 tbsp Olive oil(for drizzling)
- 1 tsp Salt(or to taste)
- 1/4 cup Water (optional)(to thin to desired consistency)
๐จโ๐ณ Instructions
- 1
In a medium bowl, combine the plain yogurt, finely diced or grated cucumber, minced garlic, chopped fresh dill, and salt.
- 2
Stir everything together until well combined. If the mixture is too thick for your liking, gradually add a little water until you reach your desired consistency.
- 3
Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Add more salt or garlic if desired.
- 4
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the dip to chill.
- 5
Before serving, give the tarator a good stir. Drizzle with olive oil and garnish with chopped walnuts, if using.
- 6
Serve chilled as a dip with bread, vegetables, or as a side dish to grilled meats and stews.
๐ก Pro Tips
- โFor a smoother consistency, you can blend all the ingredients in a food processor.
- โUsing Greek yogurt will result in a thicker, creamier tarator.
- โThe longer it chills, the more the flavors will develop.
